Hai semua! Kalau lagi ngomongin "voice" dalam bahasa Inggris, nggak melulu soal suara vokal atau lagu favorit, loh! Kita masuk ke dunia tata bahasa, ada yang namanya "active" dan "passive voice." Nah, buat yang belum tau soal Passive dan Active Voice yuk simak penjelasan di bawah ini!

1. Pengertian:

• Active Voice (Kata Kerja Aktif): Dalam kalimat aktif, subyek melakukan aksi atau tindakan.

• Contoh: "The cat (subyek) chased (aksi) the mouse."

• Passive Voice (Kata Kerja Pasif): Dalam kalimat pasif, subyek menerima aksi atau tindakan.

• Contoh: "The mouse (subyek yang menerima aksi) was chased (tindakan) by the cat."

2. Rumus:

• Active Voice:

• [Subyek] + [Verb] + [Objek]

• Contoh: "She (subyek) eats (aksi) an apple (objek)."

• Passive Voice:

• [Objek] + [To be (tergantung pada tense)] + [Partisipasi lampau dari verb/V3] + [oleh (optional)] + [Penggagas tindakan (optional)]

• Contoh: "An apple (objek) is eaten (tindakan) by her (penggagas tindakan)."

3. Aturan:

• Pemilihan antara active dan passive voice dapat dipengaruhi oleh fokus kalimat atau preferensi penulis.

• Untuk mengubah kalimat dari active ke passive, perhatikan:

• Subyek kalimat aktif menjadi objek kalimat pasif.

• Objek kalimat aktif menjadi subyek kalimat pasif.

• Verb diubah menjadi bentuk past participle (V3) dari verb yang sama.

4. Contoh Kalimat:

• Active Voice:

• "She (subyek) writes (aksi) a letter (objek)."

• Passive Voice:

• "A letter (objek) is written (tindakan) by her (penggagas tindakan)."

• Active Voice:

• "They (subyek) are building (aksi) a new house (objek)."

• Passive Voice:

• "A new house (objek) is being built (tindakan) by them (penggagas tindakan)."

5. Catatan:

• Pada passive voice, "by" diikuti oleh penggagas tindakan dan seringkali bisa dihilangkan jika informasinya tidak relevan atau tidak penting.

• Beberapa tenses dalam passive voice menggunakan berbagai bentuk "to be" seperti "is," "are," "was," "were," "will be," dsb.

Active Voice:

1. Jelas dan Langsung: Kalimat aktif mengkomunikasikan tindakan secara langsung, membuatnya lebih mudah dipahami.
2. Memfokuskan pada Pelaku: Kalimat aktif menekankan siapa atau apa yang melakukan tindakan.
3. Lebih Dinamis: Memberikan kegiatan lebih energi dan keberanian.

Contoh:

• She writes a letter. (Dia menulis surat.)
• They built a house. (Mereka membangun sebuah rumah.)

Passive Voice:

1. Menekankan pada Objek: Kalimat pasif berguna ketika penulis ingin menekankan objek tindakan daripada pelakunya.
2. Ketidaktahuan atau Ketidaktahuan tentang Pelaku: Kadang-kadang kita tidak tahu atau tidak ingin menyebutkan siapa yang melakukan tindakan.
3. Lebih Halus atau Sopan: Dalam beberapa konteks, kalimat pasif bisa lebih sopan daripada kalimat aktif.

4. Choose the passive voice sentence:

a) She is writing a novel.

b) A novel is being written by her.

5. Change the following sentence from active to passive voice:

• "The chef prepares delicious meals."
